Early Life and Career

Anthony Charles Edwards was born on July 19, 1962, in Santa Barbara, California. He is the youngest of five children born to Erika Kem and Peter Edwards. Edwards began his acting career in the early 1980s, appearing in small roles in films such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) and Revenge of the Nerds (1984). He gained wider recognition for his role as Goose in the 1986 blockbuster Top Gun.

ER and Beyond

Edwards' breakthrough role came in 1994 when he was cast as Dr. Mark Greene in the medical drama ER. He played the role for eight seasons, earning a Golden Globe Award and six Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Edwards left ER in 2002 to pursue other projects. Since leaving ER, Edwards has continued to act in both film and television. He has starred in films such as The Client (1994), Zodiac (2007), and Planes (2013). He has also appeared in television shows such as Law & Order: True Crime (2017) and Designated Survivor (2018). In addition to his acting career, Edwards has also directed and produced several films and television shows. He made his directorial debut with the 2008 film Motherhood, and he has since directed episodes of ER, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and The Good Wife.

Personal Life

Edwards has been married twice. He was married to actress Jeanine Lobell from 1994 to 2001. He married his second wife, Mare Winningham, in 2004. The couple have three children together. Edwards is a supporter of several charities, including the American Red Cross and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. He is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
