Cubs Option Morel to Minors
Christopher Morel Sent to Tennessee
The Chicago Cubs have optioned shortstop Christopher Morel to the Triple-A Tennessee Smokies, the team announced on Tuesday. Morel, 23, is in his third Major League season with the Cubs and has appeared in 220 games across two seasons.
Career Stats
During his time in the majors, Morel has batted .253 with 21 home runs and 75 RBIs. In 115 games this season, he is hitting .236 with 13 homers and 44 RBIs.
Morel was originally acquired by the Cubs in a trade with the San Diego Padres in 2021. He is considered a top prospect and was ranked as the Cubs' No. 3 prospect by MLB Pipeline entering the 2023 season.
The Cubs are currently 57-75 and in fourth place in the NL Central. They are 11.5 games behind the first-place Milwaukee Brewers.
