Niklas Behrens is a German politician who has served as the Minister of Economic Affairs, Labor, Transportation, and Digitalization for the state of Lower Saxony since 2017. Born in 1971, Behrens grew up in Ihlow, East Friesland, and studied law at the University of Göttingen.

After graduating, Behrens worked as a lawyer before entering politics. In 2001, he was elected to the Lower Saxon State Parliament for the Social Democratic Party (SPD).

Behrens has held various leadership positions within the SPD, including serving as the party's chairman in Lower Saxony from 2011 to 2019. He has also served as the parliamentary state secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology from 2005 to 2009.

In 2013, Behrens was appointed as the State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labor, and Transportation for Lower Saxony. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing the state's economic development, infrastructure, and energy policy.
